Horse Park of New Jersey

News to Members

It has been a very busy year to date and we are sending out this newsletter just to let everyone know what is going to happen in the next few months. With the economy being tight the Horse Park needs your support and that of your fellow equestrians to keep the park the show place that it has become.

There have only been a few open dates on the calendar so far this year and that is a good sign that show managers like our facility and enjoy holding shows here.

One of the projects is investigating solar panels being installed on park property to offset the cost of electricity. This will also help to represent the park as an environmentally conscious “going green” partner.

The Jersey Fresh CCI event went very well this year except entries were down and sponsorship was not what it could have been. We are working on reorganizing (volunteer) committees to make it bigger and better for next year. If anyone has ideas or would like to help they can contact the Horse Park via the web site. More information will be coming by the web site.

Summer Fun at the Park is a two day benefit event that will be held on August 2nd and 3rd. It is being run as a volunteer project. August 2nd there will be a Fix-A-Test clinic with Marilyn Payne and Ann Forer donating their time. Jill Henneberg, former Olympic event rider from the 1996 team, will conduct a two day Cross Country Clinic. August 3rd will be a Hunter, Jumper and Equitation Show that is being judged by June Marsh and Jane Gilbert, both board members of the Horse Park. All the information about the two days can be found on the Horse Park web site. The Prize List for the schooling show is now available on the website.

Monday Evening Schooling time is being worked on starting on July 26th. Some weeks there will be jumps available for schooling and dressage rings will be available after a dressage show. This is for Active Equestrian Members of the Horse Park for insurance reasons. Complete information will be available on the web site and reservations must be made by the Thursday before. Groups of 5 or 6 can reserve a ring on a first come first served basis.  The haul in fee will be waived and will continue to be waived if everyone would use the proper dumpsters to clean up after themselves.

Last, but not least, we are trying to put together a bi-monthly newsletter to be mailed to our members along with having distribution at all of the local tack shops and equine facilities in Monmouth and Ocean County. If you would like to submit an article or editorial about your show or upcoming event, or if you have a story you would like to share, please email it to Lynn Mathews at the Horse Park. Her email is horseparkofnj@aol.com. In the subject line put: Newsletter editorial. We would like to publish the first newsletter in September of 2010, so if you have anything you would like to submit, send it in now.

As always, we strive to make the park a welcoming yet professional facility for all events, if you have any suggestions on how we can serve our members better, please feel free to email Joan Harper, Membership Chairperson at epicsdream@aol.com.

Here is member Sally Eichlin with Robert Dover who was the honorary chair of the Driving for Surviving program, a volunteer program serving children with cancer. All the kids were awarded a blue ribbon which was really nice. You can find out more about Driving for Surviving's program on their website www.sharingvillage.org. They have a video on this page which describes the program a lot better than I could. I don't know who came up with this concept, but what a great one it is. Driving for Surviving is on cloud nine to have Sally volunteering. I think she was embarrassed by the fuss they made over her. The fundraiser was Oct.. 11th at Gladstone (USET headquarters) The kids gave a driving demo. Louis Piancone brought his Gelderlander hitch to entertain everyone. They had a silent auction and a luncheon. It was a perfect fall afternoon. Everyone had a great time.
